Independent Scottish singer-songwriter emaé (pronounced em-may) was born and raised in Aberdeen. Her father’s business would see her family move from Scotland to England, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana before settling in London. A feel-good blend of soul-pop, emaé is a fusion of all the cultures that embraced her and the places she’s called home.
With Zambian and Congolese heritage, emaé released her debut single, ‘Something Beautiful,’ to critical acclaim in the UK/US/Japan. MTV The Alternative Wrap Up praised the record that ‘oozes confidence, honesty and a relatability that is rare for newcomers.’ Soulbounce USA noting its ‘luscious vocals’ and ‘sweet harmonies.’
emaé’ documents self discovery in her songs. Being supported by BBC Introducing, BBC 6, AFROPUNK and playlisted by Spotify in Indonesia and Japan, her music has reached over 55 countries independently. England footballer Rio Ferdinand’s magazine 5mag praised her for forging ‘her own lane in today’s British music landscape.’
Pegged as One To Watch by the MOBOs and moving away from the acoustic sound, emaé has just released her debut album, Old Heart.
Executively produced by emaé alongside musical director and bassist Oroh Angiama (Corrine Bailey Rae, Tom Jones, Warner, Atlantic Records), Old Heart is an exciting mix of her honest, life-weathered songwriting and roaming melodies fleshed out by full studio production.
